Taking Care of Treadmill Belts
By Kevin Urban

Most reputable manufacturers of treadmills today build sturdy equipment designed to withstand frequent use, which do not require expensive repairs such as replacing treadmill belts or other parts. However, if you use yours very frequently, or if you purchased it as a second hand item, you might need to replace a certain part during your ownership of the machine. One of the parts that might possibly require attention is the treadmill belt.

Replacing the Treadmill Belt

Treadmill repair parts, including the running belt, should be replaced free of charge if your machine is still under warranty. Should the period of guarantee have elapsed when the treadmill requires a replacement belt, the manufacturer will be able to provide the part for you at a fee. Repair parts are available from the merchant where you bought your machine, and it is possible to purchase generic belts that will fit any brand. Ensure that you obtain the correct measurements of the belt you require, and have the replacement fitted by an expert if necessary. The proper fitting of any repair part to your treadmill is absolutely essential to ensure the continued safe use of your fitness equipment.

Prolong the Life of Your Machine with a Repair & Maintenance Kit

With careful maintenance, it is possible to avoid repairing and replacing parts of treadmills too soon. Many manufacturers sell special maintenance and repair kits alongside their treadmills, or you can use a soft cotton cloth and a non-abrasive, non-acid based cleaner to keep your running belt in top condition. Be sure to check belts regularly for the build up of any debris, and wipe down regularly with your cleaning materials – never spray your cleaning fluid directly onto the equipment, spray a small amount on your cloth instead. Be sure to check that your treadmill belt is properly positioned on the deck. With a few small regular checks, you can prolong the life of treadmill belts and avoid repairs, but as soon as you do see any visible damage, such as the running surface becoming smooth or thin, do your part and replace it immediately to ensure your own safety.
