Using a treadmill at home, therefore, gives you an opportunity to add aerobic workouts to your weekly exercise routine.



However, buying a treadmill can be confusing if you're not sure what to look for. Like other pieces of exercise equipment, treadmills come in a variety of makes, models and a range of prices.



Generally, treadmills come in motorized or manual models. Motorized treadmills are more expensive but give you a harder workout and a much smoother run or walk. Additionally, when using a motorized treadmill, you will need to keep up your pace with the pace of the machine which will give a much better workout of your legs and cardiovascular system.



While motorized treadmills offer you an excellent workout, they may not be recommended for the elderly or people who feel unsteady while using the machine. In this case, a manual treadmill which is cheaper and allows you to control your speed by your own pace may be a better option.



Another feature that you may want to look for when shopping for a treadmill is an elevation option. The elevation option is an option which allows you to walk or jog on an incline and gives you a harder workout.



When buying a treadmill you will want to check the horsepower for running. For motorized treadmills, you should get a treadmill that offers at least a horsepower of 1.5. Additionally, if you're going to be using your treadmill for running, you will want to make sure that the treadmill offers a wide range of speed. Having a wide range of speed will give you many more options for your workout.



Also, you should note that some treadmills come with front and side rails that you can hold onto for balance. For individuals that have a problem with balance, or the elderly who may be unsteady, having rails to hold onto can be an important feature.



The height of the treadmill is also something that you may want to be aware of when shopping for a Treadmill. It's been shown that treadmills that are more than an inch off the ground are often associated with more injury. If you think this may be a concern for you, then you may want to find a treadmill that is no more than an inch off the ground.



If space is an issue for you, be sure to look for a treadmill that folds up for storage. Nowadays, there are a number of treadmills which accommodate small spaces.



Lastly, cost is a factor which is important for many people when shopping for a treadmill. Prices for treadmills can vary widely - averaging anywhere from $200 to as much as $10,000. The more expensive types are usually industrial models that are often used in fitness clubs.



If you are shopping for a treadmill for home use, you may want to try looking at several different options in order to get the best price. One place where you can look is directly from the manufacturer. Often, you can save a lot of money just by buying directly from the manufacturer. Another option is to check large sporting goods retail chains. Sporting goods chains often buy their merchandise in bulk quantities and therefore can pass on their saving to the consumer.



Whether you buy your treadmill from a manufacturer or a sporting goods store, having a treadmill for your home is an excellent way to get an aerobic workout not only because they are convenient and you can exercise in the privacy of your own home, but you will also be able to have a great workout no matter what the weather is like outside your home.
