What You Should Consider When Shopping for a Treadmill
By Tim Gorman

Keeping fit and healthy is important. Some go to the gym to get their workouts; some, however, may simply incorporate exercise and activities into their daily routine. Gym memberships could be expensive, which is why many are choosing to buy exercise equipment that they can use at home.

One of the most popular home exercise equipment is the treadmill. There is a wide range of treadmill models available. You'll discover this as soon as you start shopping for one and see the selection being offered at department stores and various exercise and sports shops.

Choosing a treadmill may prove to be a very challenging and time consuming process. However, you have to start somewhere. First, decide if you want a manual treadmill or an electronic treadmill. With a manual treadmill, you power the belt with your footsteps. With an electronic or motorized treadmill, an electric motor powers the belt. In terms of cost, a manual treadmill is cheaper than an electronic treadmill. However, if you can find an electronic treadmill that is only a few hundred dollars more than a manual treadmill, you will be better off buying an electronic treadmill. If you do choose to go with an electronic treadmill, make sure to get the one that has 1.75 to 2 horsepower. An electronic treadmill with this much horsepower will serve you well for a long time.

An electronic treadmill will give you constant speed and a more thorough workout than a manual treadmill. An electronic treadmill has speed and timing settings that will help you burn calories more uniformly, whereas a manual treadmill won't be able to give you a steady workout since your speed is determined by how fast or slow you work the belt. Another disadvantage of using a manual treadmill is the strain it will put on your knees and hip joints. You ma have saved a few hundred dollars by getting a manual treadmill, but you may end up with all sorts of joint problems in the long run.

Also consider the available space you have at home when you're shopping for a treadmill. Where are you going to put the treadmill? Do you have a place to put the treadmill? If space is a constraint, a collapsible treadmill may be the best for you. You can store the treadmill when you are not using it and simply set it up when you do want to use it.

Treadmills come in many styles and types. You want to get a quality treadmill for a good price. Of course, once you've purchased a treadmill, the only way you will get the most out of it as well as reach your fitness goals is if you use it regularly.

If you're shopping for a new treadmill you should visit Treadmill-Solutions.com where you will find advice, tips and reviews on the most popular treadmills to include the Life Fitness treadmills and the ProForm line of treadmills.
