Treadmills - Exercise Your Way to Fitness!
By Susan Fielding
You really want to keep in shape, but the lack of time and also the thought of exercising outside in the cold is really putting you off. What you probably need is to invest in a treadmill, which is the most essential and useful home exercise equipment today.
Buying a treadmill is a major investment for most people, so you need to be aware of your needs and desires, and research various models and check out reviews before making your final choice.
There are two kinds of treadmills, one is made from steel and the other from aluminum, and both have their advantages and disadvantages. Steel made treadmills are heavier and more stable than the aluminum kind. However, steel tends to rust after contact with sweat; therefore heavy usage can in the long run destroy the machine. Aluminum treadmills on the other hand, are more durable but a bit more expensive in comparison.
Another important feature to look for is a proper cushioning system which is necessary to absorb all the force applied and created in the machine while exercising. This in turn lowers the pressure that the machine puts on a user's joints.
The length of the treadmill should ideally be 54 inches or more. It should also be equipped with all the safety features such as an automatic stop system. If a user slips from the treadmill while exercising, it will automatically shut off to prevent injury. Some machines also have a child-lock system, which is worth considering if you have young children at home.
There should also be an option to adjust inclines, whereby you can adjust the steepness of hills according to your personal needs and capacity.
Nowadays, most types in the market are electronic treadmills that give you the option of pre-programmed exercise patterns, with a heart rate monitor screen that automatically adjusts the speed of your exercise option according to your heart rate.
Buying a treadmill can be an expensive affair. While considering your budget is important, it is also imperative that you buy the best quality machine in order to get value for money, after all, your treadmill is your partner for good health and there really should be no compromise on that.
Initially using a treadmill could take a bit of getting used to, but you can start by walking. Use the handrails but don't get into the habit of it, and stop using them once you start running. Having some music on is good company. At regular intervals, change the elevation and overall focus on what you are doing.
Don't forget to consult your doctor before you start any exercise routine.

Bryce Harper’s throw from left field to home
I watch a lot of sports while running on a treadmill at the gym. Tuesday night was the first time that I have ever loudly yelped while watching sports. The cause was a throw home from left field during the seventh inning of a non-competitive game. But dang, Bryce Harper can sure wing it. His 300-foot throw on what should have been a no-doubt sac fly was just absurd, and was ruined only by the ...

Subsequent articles heralding ...
